These test evaluate the pathways of hearing (AEP), vision(VEP), and arms (SEP). The AEP stimulates the auditory nerves by using headphones and listening to a clicking noise. The VEP stimulates the optic nerves by using flashing checkerboard pattern screen on a monitor, one eye at a time. The upper SEP stimulates the median nerve by using a small electrical impulse repetitively at the wrist and recording the response with electrodes on scalp.
Preparation: Absolutely no weaves, extensions, braids, oil, gel, hairspray, or leave-in conditioner in the hair. No alcohol consumption. Hair must be freshly washed and dried the day of the study.
